Emissions standards for motorcycles are established and controlled by the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA). Standards are defined by vehicle category and the current limits have been in place since 2006 for Categories I and II motorcycles (engine displacements up to 279 cm3) and since 2010 for Category III motorcycles (displacements higher than 280 cm3).
