The United Arab Emirates (UAE) consist of seven federal emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al Quwain. Requirements for vehicle certification are regulated by the GSO, the Gulf Cooperation Council's standards organization, of which the United Arab Emirates are a member. The national authority coordinating standards and emissions related requirements is the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT).  Euro 4 standards for light duty vehicles and Euro IV standards for heavy duty vehicles were introduced in 2018 and are still in place.
