Emissions legislation in New Zealand is implemented by the Ministry of Transport and the New Zealand Transport Agency. New Zealand follows EU emissions standards, but also gives the option of compliance with US Federal or Japanese standards. Current emissions standards are Euro 5/V levels. Euro 6 and Euro VI emissions standards apply starting from 1 December 2025 and from 1 November 2024, respectively.
