Vehicle emissions legislation in New Zealand is the responsibility of the New Zealand Transport Agency which reports to the Ministry of Transport. New Zealand follows EU emissions standards, but also gives the option of compliance with US Federal or Japanese standards. Current emissions standards are Euro 5/V levels. Euro 6 and Euro VI emissions standards are going to apply starting from 1 July 2027 and from 1 November 2024, respectively.
