Emissions and fuel economy legislation in Mexico is the responsibility of the Environment Ministry, SEMARNAT. In July 2012 it published proposals for light duty vehicle fuel economy and CO2 emissions legislation, based closely on the equivalent US Federal regulations. The final regulation was published in June 2013. A draft regulation containing updated standards was published in September 2018.
