Status

Emissions standards in Japan are the joint responsibility of the Ministry of Environment (MOE) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT). New emissions standards for diesel heavy duty vehicles were introduced in 2016; OBD requirements were also updated. Previously, the Post New Long Term (PNLT) standards applied, for both gasoline and diesel vehicles, since October 2009.
