The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) published the first version of the Global Technical Regulation No. 2 in 2005; this represented the first stage of development of a new, worldwide certification procedure for motorcycle exhaust emissions. Five amendments to the regulation have been published since, the latest one in September 2022.
