India - Non-road Engines & Vehicles
Status
Emissions standards in India for non-road applications are enforced by the the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), a department of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Stage IV CEV emissions standards are in force since 1 April 2021 for construction equipment vehicles and Stage IV TREM standards apply from 1 January 2023 for agricultural machinery. Stage V CEV standards will come into effect on 1 January 2025 and Stage V TREM standards will apply from 1 April 2026.
Emissions from diesel engines rated greater than 800 kW for power plant, generator sets or other applications are covered by the Environment Third Amendment Rules 2002, with current limits applicable since 2005. New emissions standards for generator sets with power lower than 800 kW apply from 1 July 2023; standards for these engines were previously defined by a number of different regulations.
