EU - Fuels

Status

Fuel quality within the EU is governed both by legislation and voluntary standards. The Fuel Quality Directive mandates key parameters which have a direct environmental impact and the standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) provide more comprehensive specifications which include parameters which affect engine performance. The CEN standards are not mandatory but are, in practice, followed by the whole industry. Current standards in the EU provide gasoline and diesel with a maximum of 10 ppm sulphur.
