The national body responsible for standards in Ecuador is INEN, Instituto Ecuatoriano de Normalización (Ecuadorian Standards Institute). Certification to EU or US EPA emissions standards is required and current emissions standards are equivalent to Euro 3 or US EPA Tier 1 for gasoline vehicles; current emissions requirements for diesel vehicles are at Euro 1 level or US EPA Tier 0.
