The national body responsible for standards in Ecuador is INEN, Instituto Ecuatoriano de Normalización (Ecuadorian Standards Institute); this organisation manages the requirements for the certification of vehicles. Certification to EU or US EPA emissions standards is required and current emissions standards are equivalent to Euro 3 or US EPA Tier 1 for gasoline vehicles; current emissions requirements for diesel vehicles are at Euro 1 level or US EPA Tier 0.
