Fuel specifications are set by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (Ministerio de Minas y Energía) and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible). Updated fuel specifications were published in 2021 and a programme to decrease sulphur concentration in fuels is being implemented.
