Emissions legislation in China is the responsibility of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) (formerly the Ministry for Environmental Protection (MEP)).
The China 6 standards were released on 23 December 2016 and type approval according to these standards was implemented from this date. All new vehicles have to comply with the requirements of Phase 6a from 1 July 2020.
China 5 standards, which were published in 2013, were effective, nationwide, from January 2018.
