Protection of Canadian air quality is the responsibilty of Environment Canada, which enforces governmental environmental policy. The main legislative instrument under which it achieves that goal is the Canadian Environmental Protection Act 1999 (CEPA 1999). Emissions for spark ignition stationary engines using gas fuels are regulated by the Multi-Sectors Air Pollutants Regulations, published in June 2016. Emissions standards for compression ignition stationary engines are in line with the relevant US EPA standards.
