Transport Canada, reporting to the Minister for Transport, is responsible for marine emissions legislation. The minister announced in May 2013 the adoption of new marine emissions legislation, in line with that already in place in the USA.  The amendments to the Canadian legislation, as previously actioned in the USA, were adopted under Annex VI of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) MARPOL agreement [1].  The amendments are effective in the North American Emission Control Area and include rules for vessels in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence waters [2].
