Brazil does not have a legislated fuel economy programme but in 2012 it introduced an incentive scheme (Inovar-Auto) which gives tax benefits against vehicles meeting certain fuel economy and manufacturing criteria. Defined vehicle fuel economy improvements must be achieved by October 2017 or October 2016 to achieve a 1 or 2 percentage point reduction in IPI tax, respectively.
