Saudi Arabia - Heavy Duty Vehicles

Status

Emissions legislation in Saudi Arabia is generally the responsibility of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment [1]. Standards for road vehicles, however, are controlled on their behalf by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO).  A standard for heavy duty diesel engined vehicles was established in 1991 limiting criteria emissions and smoke.  There are reports of unsuccessful attempts to establish Euro II level standards, in recent years, and it is not clear when this transition will be achieved [2].
