Status
Emissions standards in India for non-road applications are enforced by the the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), a department of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Construction equipment vehicles became subject to Bharat (CEV) Stage III emissions limits in April 2011. Bharat (Trem) Stage IIIA came into force for tractors with engines of up to 37 kW in April 2010 and for larger tractors in April 2011. Stage IV CEV and TREM standards are due to apply from 1 April 2021 and 1 October 2021 respectively.
Emissions from diesel engines rated greater than 800 kW for power plant, generator sets or other applications are covered by the Environment Third Amendment Rules 2002, with current limits applicable since 2005. Revised standards for petrol or kerosene powered portable generator sets and diesel generator sets up to 800 kW (including stationary applications), came into effect in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
