Fuel consumption standards in China are the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Phase 4 passenger car fuel consumption standards are being phased in from January 2016. Separate fuel consumption limits for light commercial vehicles are in place.

For heavy duty vehicles, Phase 3 standards apply, for new type approvals, since 1 July 2019.
