Environment Canada, a government appointed body, is responsible for national air quality standards. An Air quality Management System, which includes air quality standards for fine particulate matter and ozone, was established in 2012. Canada and the USA have also signed an agreement for the control of NOx and SO2, which is applicable in the seven eastern most provinces in Canada.
