Fuel standards in Australia are currently administered by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, since July 2022. Previously, the responsibility for fuel standards was with the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, from 2020, and prior to this it was held by the Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment.  Fuel quality standards were first introduced in 2002. Updated fuel standards apply, for all fuels, from 1 October 2019.
